how late before sleeping can i drink coffee?

Not after 2 pm: Caffeine overstimulates your senses. If you ares sensitive to caffeine and its effects, avoid drinking any caffeine containing drink after 2pm as it generally takes 8 hrs for the effects of caffeine to wear off our system. This would allow you to have a quality sleep at night.

i take amitriptiline 25mg before bed. can i drink coffee in order to stay awake? or will it alter the effect of it? it makes me sleep all day.

Accepted Answer

Amitryptilline: has a common side effect of causing fatigue.  Try taking it  1-2 hours earlier in the evening.  Coffee and other caffeinated products are acceptable in moderation.  If you continue to have fatigue, speak with your doctor - excessive sleepiness may be a reason to try another medication.

i've a sleep test appointment today and i was told not to drink coffee all day but i forgot and had a cup. should i postpone the sleep test or still go?

Go: Caffeine may contaminate the results slightly, but given its short time to elimination from the body, more likely your sleep study will be unchanged. Don't have any more caffeine, and you ought to get good, reliable results. Good luck!

Yes: Too much coffee can increase u heart rate and can provoke anxiety. Try to cut it down to two cups /day.

Check BP: The primary concern is your blood pressure. Please have this checked. If your blood pressure is high you should drink only decaf coffee. Otherwise in moderation coffee may actually have beneficial effects. Research shows coffee drinkers may have lower rates of type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's, liver cancer &amp; heart failure.

is coffee(black) actually beneficial for intermittent fasting? if so what would be good times for drinking in order to not mess up my sleeping clock? and last how long would it be ok to go along with this before i can run into problems like withdraw?

: Black coffee will allow you to remain in ketosis during intermittent fasting, and may provide you with extra energy and alertness. If you don’t usually drinking coffee, start small. Don’t drink any coffee for 6-8 hours before you plan to go to bed. If power napping (30-min or less), it may be helpful to drink one cup right before going to sleep, as it takes about 30-minutes to be absorbed.

Build up Adenosine: Caffeine in coffee blocks adenosine receptors in your brain from receiving adenosine, which is a neurotransmitter that causes fatigue. Although caffeine prevents your brain from receiving adenosine, it doesn’t stop your body from producing the neurotransmitter. Thus, when the caffeine wears off, there is a buildup of adenosine that will make you sleepy. Avoid coffee beverages with lots of sugar.

Medical evaluation: If this is persistent, consider seeing your md.  If alcohol, substance abuse, medications, late pm exercising, and stimulant-like ingest ants are eliminated -  pursue medical causes.  Mindful meditation, cognitive behavior psychotherapy, or interim medication may be helpful. Many have chronic sleep disorders and as a result do not realize the non-restorative nature of their sleep.  Restless legs?

Hard to say: but people with paradoxical reactions to stimulants may have one of the conditions that are specifically treatable with stimulants, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), narcolepsy or a shift disturbance disorder. You need a physician with expertise in sleep disorders to take a full history, perform an appropriate physical examination, and do whatever ancillary tests are needed.

im 34 and workout regularly, i am consuming large amounts of coffee recently and still dont seem to be alert. i sleep well around 7 to 8 hours daily but still seem in a daze no matter how much coffee or tea or green tea i drink?

: Although you say you sleep well but obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) needs to be ruled out if you one of these have risk factors: obese, short neck or abnormal pharyngeal structure. You can sleep for 7-8 hours but if you have OSA, you are never in deep sleep state and it is the same as sleepless state. If sleep apnea is ruled out, narcolepsy should be next in differential diagnosis.
