Couple days: It is common for it to take a couple days for the antibiotic to kick in.  If you have a large swelling that is palpable it may need to be drained to speed up the healing.  If you are just sore it may be more than just the infection.  Call your provider if you are concerned.

If your infection is severe an I&amp;D may be necessary to drain most of the infection before it will begin to work. Consult your doc: A burn that is kept clean with plenty of clean water & antibacterial soap & covered by neosporin or other antibiotic ointment should heal well without oral antibiotics. Mrsa in your past does not make you more/less at risk than anyone else. Monitoring of the wound by your doc can provide a better idea if any other help is needed.Some wounds need daily cleansing in a hydrotherapy setting.
