Avoid harsh and drying cleansers, such as Ivory, Irish Spring, or Lever 2000. Pat away excess water and immediately apply moisturizer like Vanicream.

Eczema: Foods such as wheat, corn, peanuts, eggs.A whole list of things that can be determined by talking to an allergist, also perfumed soaps, detergents, etc.

Natural soaps: Try natural soaps such as dr. Bonner's castile soap--unscented or scented; also you can try to limit the length, duration, and type of baths.  Shorter cooler baths less often help to maintain the moisture in the skin.

Bathing: Moisturizing soaps are best for bathing (dove unscented®, aveeno®). For some people even these are too drying; then consider non-soap skin cleansers (cetaphil® or something similar).

my daughter aged 5 turning 6 has stains on her underwear dark in colour its not even a discharge it smells like urine please advise ...i do bath her frequently eith non fragranced soap on her entire body because she has eczema *i use glycerin soap?

It happens: The female at this age may get into trouble with baths because of bathing practices, especially with fragrant soaps. Sitting in a tub of soapy/dirty water allows that water to coat her pee hole &amp; enter her vagina. Unless the area is rinsed with clean water before leaving it can trigger itching or urinary problems. A dry tub shower with a sprayer can end this as can just showering.

Eczema management: Atopic dermatitis is a skin condition characterized by dry, wrinkled, itchy and occasionally red skin.  Symptoms can be reduced with hypoallergenic cleansers and moisturizers such as Cetaphil, CeraVue, etc., and fragrance/dye free detergents.  Moisturizers in ointment form penetrate deeper.  Topical steroids are also helpful. Avoid eating foods that you are allergic to and stay well hydrated.

Plain soap and water: Plain soap and water works fine. One can then use his usual moisturizing creams. Haven't seen a hand sanitizer that helps people with their eczema rashes. Very occasional use of hand sanitizer on eczema-prone hands is ok if there is no place to wash hands. Life is about balance, so each person has to decide how much to wash his hands without overdoing it. Too much hand-washing damages the skin.

Eczema/shampoos: Aveeno (oatmeal) is fine, as are most of the fragrance free/low chemical shampoos.  However, if the eczema is affecting her scalp a lot, i would suggest a "tar" based shampoo at least once a week. Tar based shampoos are a type of medicated shampoo that really helps with chronic scalp conditions. They don't smell or look like tar that you think of on the street - so don't be scared off by that!

Eczema soap: The most popular in the U.S. Is cetaphil. Cerave is a close second. Dove is the best routine soap. Using less soap can often be a great answer.
