on 20mg adderall ir twice a day. take 1st dose at 7:30am. no issues with pulse or bp. quite good actually. avg 120/70 pls 65. 6 hours later i take second dose. pulse still good but bp jumps 20 systolic/10/diastolic. why good with 1st dose but not 2nd?

Yes: Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) and any of the other stimulant medications quite typically cause a relatively slight increase in both pulse rate and blood pressure and usually do so every time one takes the medication.  The effect lessens during the day, and there is no evidence that it worsens over time or that there a cumulative problem caused by these increases.

Known effect: Adderall typically raises the blood pressure as a side effect.  It should not be given to anyone with hypertension until the hypertension has been controlled.  Pulse is not affected.

Within normal range: This may or may not reflect the long acting adderall, your nervousness with the doctors findings, or be a fluke. It is not in a worrisome range.

Minimal.: Generally while adderal can increase blood pressure or pulse slightly, this not clinically significant. Weight loss is variable from one individual to another, often associated with appetite decrease and not usually an issue. It is good you are exercising and feeling well, please confer with the prescribing physician to monitor your weight and mood changes.

my dr. just upped my adderall xr from 20 mg to 30 mg. now i'm frequently very lightheaded. i checked my blood pressure , it was 87/66 pulse 77. ideas?

Please: see your physician again the blood pressure seems a bit low to me. Dosage of the Adderall may need adjusting

Probably unrelated: Adderal would be expected to increase your heart rate if it had any effect at all. It could cause extra heartbeats which give an artificial sense of a slower heartbeat.

Adderal at age 60?: There is no absolute contraindication relative to an upper age restriction for adderal, which is an amphetamine/stimulant medication. As with any medication, we must consider the risks vs the benefits. In my opinion as a child psychiatrist, a board certified child psychiatrist would be most qualified to monitor you on the adderal, as all of us child psychiatrists are general-adult psychiatrists.

.: Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) both generic and brand named medication can cause increase in blood pressure. So if the blood pressure is increasing check with your physician again to see if you need to be on the same medication or if the medication needs to be adjusted.

Adderall Comedown ?: Some people have a comedown off of adderall when either the drug effect has worn off or is wearing off.  This can cause some to feel irritable, moody &amp; wired (plus potentially quite tired). Please let your prescribing medical provider know about these possible side effects.
