elevate
contrast warm moist compress with cool compress
monitor for infection: ie increasing redness, increasing swelling, fevers, etc...

Should begin to subside in a few days.

Yes: If the bee sting just happened, and you have made sure the stinger is out and taken an antihistamine for the swelling, you could also take ibuprofen for the pain. If that does not help and/or there is any redness or swelling going up your leg, you should call/go to your doctor.

No: No, I would not say it is normal.  It may be just related to the sting, but you may also be developing an infection in that area.  I would not hesitate to be seen.

Med eval.: Infection. If you now have significant swelling resulting from a bee sting you may have an allergic reaction or an infection. Either of these warrant medical attention.

hi my daughter stepped on a bee and i had to pull the stinger out. her foot is swollen, its numb, red and she cant move it too much. is this normal? this is her first bite, shes 13 so im a lil worried im thinking of taking her to the hospital.

Initial treatment: for a bee sting is ICE, Benadryl, and Motrin.   Your daughter is old enough to receive these medications.   The dosages can be found on the bottle.   If the reaction is worrying you however, its fine to have a physician take a look at an urgent care or ER if symptoms seem to be throughout her body in any way.

Arthus Reaction: It is evident that his body didn't like the bee and has had a significant allergic reaction to the bite. This is not uncommon and usually represents the blood vessels leaking fluid out to surround any injected bug vomit to prevent it from getting into the blood. I  like to look at bites if they get that intensity of a reaction and be sure infection is not setting in.Have it checked.

SOAK: in warm water...apply a POULTICE of BAKING SODA (Make a "paste" and apply on the area where the STINGER is probably still lodged...wait until the paste hardens then soak it off&gt;   ICE may help both the swelling and the pain so after you do the above use local ice and elevate the foot!Hope this is helpful

Diphenhydramine: Diphenhydramine (benedryl) or any similar anti-histamine may help stop further swelling. However, don't expect anything to quickly remove what is there. You describe a classical arthus reaction where the body releases chemicals at a bite site. The chemicals turn capillaries into soaker hoses that flood the area with serum to dilute bite toxins.it takes time for this swelling to gradually fade.
