Infant stools: First thing is to make sure it is constipation.  Infants stools are a cause of concern for many parents as they seem to always be changing!    if a baby has been breastfed, and is having soft stools, he is not constipated even if he seems to be straining.  Some breast fed infants have stools several times per day, others couple times per week. If stools are hard try 1 oz pear juice as needed.

Fiber is good but: If you are not drinking enough fluid it can lead to constipation. Remember caffeine and alcohol dehydrate and lead to constipation. Generally i recommend 80-100 ounces of caffeine free/alcohol free fluids every day. It will take 10-14 days of this regimen to see improvement. If not better need to have a GI workup for other causes of constipation.

Fluid and fiber: Foods high in fat tend to constipate you.  Foods high in fiber favor looser stools.  Fruits vegetable, whole grains are excellent sources of fiber.  Also, fiber only works if u are well hydrated.  Drink plenty of non-caffinated, non-alcoholic fluids to keep stools soft.  Fiber can also be added to a glass of water.  If this does not work see a GI specialist, there may be another cause of your issu.

I'm : I'm sure you are increasing the fiber in your diet, also make sure you drink plenty of water. You can try an over the counter laxative or stool softener like colace (docusate sodium). If the problem does not resolve soon you can visit your doctor for treatment options or you can try an enema sold in stores (i.e. Fleet enema) use as directed.

Constipation: If you have the urge but cannot move your bowels,insert a rectal dulcolax suppository or a fleets enema. Sometimes manual disimpaction or full tap waster enema is needed. If you have no urge at all, take oral laxative like fleets phosphosoda, milk of magnesia or dulcolax tablets. Constipation remedy: There is no one size fits all constipation remedy, but pts your age usually have constipation due to lack of fiber in the diet, low water intake, excess meats, or drugs that slow gut movement (pain killers). Try drinking more water, eating fiber (fruits, veggies, oatmeal), taking metamucil, or cutting down on meats or pain meds.

Constipation: Constipation can be caused by lack of fiber in the diet. Please decrease sugars and fats in diet, and increase foods with fiber, like beans and green leafy vegetables. Drink lots of water.

See: A GI specialist. Try high fiber soft diet, drink plenty of fluids and increase activity level. Your GI May place you on stool softener, laxatives and or suppository or rectal manual stool evacuation if indicated
