Possibly: Calcium channel blockers due decrease calcium absorption.  Talk to your doctor about it.  I assume you are on the calcium channel blocker for a good reason and should not stop it unless instructed by your doctor.  You can take steps to avoid osteoporosis such as eating a calcium rick diet, doing daily weight bearing exercies, like walking, and having 15 minutes of sun exposure a day.

Osteoporosis: Yes but not enough. By the time you have osteoporosis calcium is not enough to treat it (is like using a band aid for an abdominal wound. For that you need stitches ). Talk to your doctor about osteoporosis medications. They may reverse it to normal bone density. If you smoke, you need to quit.

That : That is an excellent question.  Cardiovascular risks also increase, for stroke and myocardial infarction (heart attack).  Of course eating well and keeping weight under control are helpful, but some physicians also advise that their patients take a baby Aspirin a day, which can help prevent stroke and heart problems.  Patients with an Aspirin sensitivity, ulcers, or bleeding problems of course can't take aspirin, but most patients can take a baby Aspirin a day with no problem.  Be sure your mammogram and colonoscopies are up to date as well.

i have osteoporosis, and three compressed fractures. should one keep working or is resting better while healing?

Rest if recent.: If the fractures occurred in the recent past (1-2 months) you should avoid stress to the back.  Generally healing and a reduction in pain takes 2 months.  A bone density test should be done as medication is likely to be needed.  Even after healing care should be taken to avoid stress to the back such as twisting, bending and lifting heavy weights.

See below: If you are 60, your chance is low but it's impossible to say until you are examined and your complete history is known.  I recommend talking to your primary care physician about this and he/she will refer you to someone appropriate if there are things that can be done.  Good luck.
