Trepiline: I firmly believe that all medications, including nonprescription ones, should be ok'd by your obstetrician during pregnancy. If you are on a small dose of trepiline, it would be easier to wean off it if this is advisable after conferring with the prescribing physician and your obstetrician. Tough problem: It is said that the insomnia of pregnancy prepares you for being up all night with a newborn. That said, there are some safe sleep aids. Doxylamine (unisom) and Diphenhydramine (benadryl) are two products with a long safety record. Try to get a nap during the day. Good luck, you'll do fine.

Doxylamine  safety: Doxylamine is used to treat sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching, and other cold or allergy symptoms.
Let the wise woman within you ask-what are you using it for, and your reasons to continue for 14 years?
See your Physician for Glaucoma, problems with urination, Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema, or other Chronic Lung disease; and discuss safety of Doxylamine.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Please check with your OB physician, but Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is generally considered safe.  It appears you may already be taking this. Your doctor may want to check further into the possible causes of your "severe insomnia" also.  Consultation with a psychiatrist or sleep medicine physician could be in order.

Anxiety...: I am not an MD, but have had hundreds of patients with similar questions.   Wellbutrin (bupropion) is not typically good for anxiety incidently.  Anyway, Sertraline (Zoloft) is considered relatively safe for pregnant women and has been used where they know the mother to be prone to depression/anxiety.   Ask your MD. Common: There a multiple changes in your body during pregnancy and insomnia is not too worrisome.  Discuss it with your obstetrician next visit.  Have a balanced diet, an exercise regimen, and give yourself a "sleep time" and stick to it.

Pregnancy?: Rescue sleep and rescue sleep liquid melts are reported to work by decreasing anxious ruminations. Do you have that problem? I do not know if these products are safe during pregnancy. Please don't take any herbal medications/ supplements without getting it ok'ed with your obstetrician. Sleep hygiene is the safest way to approach insomnia during pregnancy. 1. Keep a regular bedtime & wakening time.

Never normal: Insomnia can happen as a result of hormonal and physiological changes while pregnant, but it is never considered a normal thing.
