The pulmonary arteries are unique because they are the only arteries in the body with de-oxygenated blood (low oxygen). These arteries travel to the lungs to pick up oxygen, and then return to the heart through the pulmonary veins.

They are backwards: All arteries in the body carry oxygenated blood from the heart.  After leaving the arteries, blood enters capillaries where oxygen is dropped off and carbon dioxide waste is picked up.  Veins then take the carbon dioxide back to the heart.  Now here is the difference.  The pulm. Arteries then take the blood with carbon dioxide to the lungs where oxygen is picked up and carried by the pulm. Veins.

: The vessels have changed their structure, often referred to as remodeling. The findings are isolated to one specific area and over the next several weeks, your physician may elect to order a follow up image. Watch for signs of shortness of breath, chest pain, and EKG changes.

To Survive!: Blood must get to the head & body; coarctation is an obstruction to this flow. So blood flows through a vessel called the PDA (normal in a  fetus), to go from the pulmonary artery to aorta ( getting blood and nutrients to the head and body). No: A clot formed in the radial artery, the usual site of blood draw for arterial blood gases, does not have a way to reach the lungs.

Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.  Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless.
Practice safe sex.
