Limited or systemic?: Osteoarthritis is wear and tear on specific joints.  This is common in the hands, knees, shoulder, hips, etc - joints that have been used a lot.  Rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic (whole body) inflammation that can affect many joints and can even give symptoms like fever, weakness, or fatigue - not just localized pain.

Maybe: I have patients who know that they will sooner or later need knee replacement surgery.  Some were planning on traveling and requested injections for pain relief.  All of these patients had good temporary relief of their pain.  However, the pain always returns sooner or later, and the patient runs the small but real risk of infection with any injection. Think carefully and discuss with your Doctor.

No: Not if you have had side effects from anti-inflammatory drugs.

See details: There is a moderate GI risk but if you take a ppi such as Prilosec or Protonix (pantoprazole) at the same time you minimize that risk. Studies have suggested that there is no increase in cardiac risk with profens.

It may be: But get checked by your gyn.  It could be in the pelvis.  One good medicine for arthritis pain is Cymbalta (duloxetine) if u are not on that.  It builds up transmitters in the brain that decrease ascending pain signals.  Make sure you get good sleep at night and don't clinch or grind teeth a lot at night.  You could have a UTI though, they come up atypically at times.  Good luck.

was diagnosed w/osteoarthritis in left hip at 41, 3 yrs later leg often gives out & i lurch to side, feels like hip is giving way. are the 2 related?

Could be: You may lurch from the pain but i suspect you may also have some lumbar disc disease compounding your problems.  If you are overweight, the single best thing you can do is lose weight.  If you smoke you need to quit.  Add some supplemental calcium of 1500mg/day and add some vitamin d if you tend to be a more indoors girl.

i have osteoarthritis in my lower back.  i'm on meloxicam right now which has helped the pain a great deal.  is there anything else that can help osteoarthritis besides meloxicam?  and how long is it safe to take meloxicam before there are side affects?

Back Pain: Ask your doctor about adding behavioral approaches such as biofeedback (available from trained clinical psychologists), the mind-body approach of John Sarno, MD (search web), and perhaps physical therapy.  Peace and good health.

i have osteoarthritis in my right knee and one side is real bad the dr said i need surgery but not for 10 yrs my knee won't last that long?

See below: To minimize progression of osteoarthritis of the knee, consider seeing a physical therapist to strengthen the quadricep muscles about your knee and if overweight, lose weight because every pound you lose is 4 pounds with gravity that you take off the knee and this can help with pain.
