Prolactin?: If by "lactate" hormone you mean prolactin, it's a pituitary hormone that prepares the breast to secrete milk. It is generally high only during pregnancy, but can be elevated by some medications and pituitary problems. If your prolactin level is high, it can interfere with fertility for several reasons. Check w/your OB for more info.

...: Boils are typically caused by the bacteria called staphylococcus aureus (mrsa and mssa).  It is usually spread through contact with someone’s skin or personal items (towels, razors, etc). To prevent MRSA wash your hands often, keep cuts covered, and don't share towels or razors. Treatment of boils can include drainage and antibiotics depending on the sensitivity of the bacteria isolated.

Accepted Answer

Yes, but why?: Men have all the necessary plumbing for lactation and, under certain pathologic conditions, will lactate (the medical term is galactorhea). However, it is not physiologically normal for men to do this but is most often a symptom of something out of whack hormonally. If this is you, see your doc for evaluation.

Not foods, drugs: I am unaware of foods causing lactation, but certain psychoactive drugs can result in hyperprolactinemia, an abnormal rise in a hormone from the brain that can result in milk production.

Ask provider: Discuss this issue and any other pros and cons of the procedure. Ask what to expect, alternatives, etc. Perhaps you can wait and just eat moderately w/ a healthy diet until you finish lactating if they feel it's better to wait.

Fenugreek: There have been a number of herbs, spices and foods used traditionally to stimulate milk production, including asparagus, milk thistle, brewer's yeast, and alfalfa. But fenugreek is probably the most used and has the best evidence supporting it. Working with a lactation consultant is my favorite way to increase milk supply.

Prolactin release: Medications like neuroleptics can stimulate the release of the hormone prolactin from the anterior pituitary gland. Small adenomas (benign tumors) in the pituitary can also do this. Have your doctor measure your prolactin level and do an exam.
