Depends on the: fracture.  IF it needs surgery it will take anywhere from 8-12 weeks.  If it is a simple non-dispalced fibula fracture at the distal ankle you may be back as early as 6-8 weeks.  fractures in general take 8 weeks to heal.

Not the bone: They see something on the xray but it is thought to be not from the bone but possibly outside the bone or on the skin or possibly on your clothes. They would have to get a second view at a different angle to see exactly where the thing is.

Lucency is when : The area of the bone is darker in color. Keep in mind bone is white. So a lucency or dark color would indicate a lack of bone in that area. Sometimes, it could be due to a cyst which would be a hollow type area because of lack of bone. Sometimes there could be a shadow effect or overlap of bone and that could be a reason they don't feel there is significance.

: Fractures of the distal portion of the fibula are generally slower to heal, with disruption of surrounding muscle causing the swelling.  Assuming that you had this fracture examined and treated by an orthopedic physician, call for an appointment for his/her assessment currently of the healing process.

Fibula: Some pain is normal at 3 months. Hard to say surgically what's going on without exam and x-rays.

Old vs New Fx: You have either an old or new injury pending on the correlation of the images to the date of injury and (most importantly) current symptoms i.e. Pain.  You should be examined by a sports medicine physician or an orthopedist, asap since you're having trouble bearing weight.

Usually heal in 6 wk: Xray appearance is said to lag behind clinical reality by ~ 2 weeks. Nonetheless, fractures routinely take at least 6 weeks ot heal in adults.

A benign lesion.: Bone lesions can be 'soft' or 'hard' (lucent or sclerotic) on xrays depending on how much calcium/phosphorus content.  Both types can be benign or cancerous.

Radiologists evaluate a bone lesion's borders, size, location, any associated findings, number, and few other variables to determine whether it falls in the benign or malignant category. Sometimes its a normal anatomic finding as well.

i was diagnosed with a distal fibula avulsion about two weeks ago.  why does it hurt when i press down with my toes, but not when i push up?

Varies : There are several potential explanations for this.  Plantar flexion will have a tendency to stretch the peroneal tendons, which are right near your zone if injury and so this may be irritating it.  Dorsiflexuon will tend to relax them.  This should resolve as you recover from your injury, I would let your doctor know in your follow up visit.

would it be better if non displaced weber b distal fibula fractures with soft tissue and partial aftl and deltoidligament tears be treated operatively?

Depends on stability: Nondisplaced weber b fractures can often be treated nonsurgically.  The decision to operate on these depends on the stability of the deltoid ligament.  An orthopaedic surgeon can evaluate your xrays and perform a stress xray of your ankle to test for this and help you make decisions regarding surgery.  Surgery does not heal the ankle faster, just with the bones in a better position when necessary.
