Depends on stability: Nondisplaced weber b fractures can often be treated nonsurgically. The decision to operate on these depends on the stability of the deltoid ligament. An orthopaedic surgeon can evaluate your xrays and perform a stress xray of your ankle to test for this and help you make decisions regarding surgery. Surgery does not heal the ankle faster, just with the bones in a better position when necessary.

Fx Ankle: This a really good question. If there is no displacement at all and only partial tears i would consider casting and non weightbearing for 6-8 weeks. Surgery can always be performed at a later date if needed. Discuss at length with your surgeon.

Fib fracture: If the fracture is stable then no surgery is needed. Stability depends on several factors such as integrity of the other side (medial) of the ankle. If there is no tenderness medially then likely there is no medial malleolus fracture & no torn medial ligaments. If fibula fracture is unstable & thus cannot be maintained in a cast or boot then surgery is needed.
