Difficult problem: You probably have permanent damage to your nerve.  Avoid Aspirin containing products.  Avoid loud noises and activities that can cause barotrauma, such as diving.  If you have seen a specialist for this condition, i don't have anything to add.  You might want to look at  american tinnitus association home page for further ideas.

Try to have people look directly at you when they are speaking.

The technology in the hearing aid industry has made such great technological advances that there may be computerized aids (expensive) that can decrease the volume of the amplification when you enter a noisy room and then automatically increase the volume in a quiet room.  Ask your hearing aid dealer.

Yes they can: In most cases, they will help alot.  It depends on the type of hearing loss you have.  Go to an ENT doctor for an exam and hearing evaluation.  They can, based on the test, make a recommendation about hearing aids.  You get a 30 day trial period with hearing aids so you can then judge for yourself if they help enough to warrant the expense.

Talk to an audiologist or an ENT specialist who can recommend appropriate testing and treatment.
