NSAIDS, ice, walk: Low intensity cycling or walking, then gentle stretching exercises. Ice for about 45 minutes 3-4 times per day, will address inflammation and swelling, never apply ice to the skin, always over a towel or clothing. Pain can be relieved  with over-the-counter medications like advil or aleve (naproxen). Follow directions on label.

hi, i have aching muscles after a work day especially the back. is there a remedy? i have a desk job.

Back: This is difficult to answer as i don't know what you do such as heavy labor vs. Desk job.  Stretching before and after work can be helpful. How you sit at a desk is important as well. Do you have a wallet in you back pocket as this can cause back problems. Heat to the painful area can help. If it persists or worsens you should see your doctor.

can an insect bite cause a bruise? its a flesh coloured circle with what looks like a puncture mark surrounded by bruise my pharmacist says no? im now worried its a bruise with no trauma so leukaemia? no other symptoms apart from aching muscles i?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. Insect bites  can result in a bruise, however, it would more important to rule out tick bite that may transmit Lyme disease. It would be prudent to see a doctor.

Chantix side effects: Yes, achy muscles and joints have been reported as side effects to Chantix.  They are not common.

Common side effects include loss of taste, nausea, trouble sleeping, headache, dry mouth or constipation.

Nerve pain: This sounds like nerve rather than muscle pain.  there could be some inflammation or infection going on as well. I would recommend you visit your doctor for a proper examination and possibly X Rays or ultrasound of the Lower back , hips and thigh

Probably not: There are several joints and intervertebral discs in the neck.  These can wear out over time leading to pain.  Degeneration of the joints or discs can cause neck pain, headaches, and shoulder pain.  You can also get neck pain from a muscle strain.  In some cases neck and shoulder pain could be related to your heart so be sure to see you physician.

if pt uses ultra sound on my low back for aching muscles and a bulging disc. can my back muscles go into severe spasms because of the ultra sound?

Usually not: Ultrasound is a modality that produces  sound waves that pass through the skin cause a vibration of the local tissues. This vibration can cause a deep heating locally though usually no sensation of heat will be felt by the patient unless the probe is kept still. It has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The probe must always be moving.

Yes: It could be any/all of those. Also, gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, non-ulcer dyspepsia, esophageal spasm, fibromyalgia, pleurisy, costrochondritis, cervical spondylitis as well as a host of heart problems (but not heart failure).  Please see your doctor!
