Some patients may react to benzodiazepines by showing irritability, increased excitement, aggression and hostility. When this occurs, this behavior is referred to as paradoxical effect.

It may happen AGAIN: Some people simply do have paradoxical agitation with benzos, period.  This will happen every time they use a benzo.  If the benzo is taken along with other medications, determining the cause is more confusing.

i'm not an addict but benzos never work to calm me even in high doses. nor is it paradoxical reactions. the same for everyone else i ask. why is that?

High tolerance: You ; your contacts must have high tolerance for benzodiazepines or other related drugs/substances like alcohol.  People with high tolerance to alcohol often require very high doses of benzos also.  Benzo and barbiturate sedatives ; alcohol can also induce tolerance -- requiring progressively higher doses over time.  Still another possibility is that you're using counterfeit benzos.

Paradoxical: Paradoxical reactions to benzodiazepenes are uncommon and are more common in children and elderly people as wellas alcoholics. Some people are genetically predisposed. It is felt that this group's body handles the drug differently.

Paradoxical reaction: By "paradoxical reaction, " most doctors mean an activated and agitated (rather than calming) response to a medication like ativan (lorazepam).  If you've had it once, i would be very reluctant to expose you to it again.
