High cholesterol: Go to http://hp2010.Nhlbihin.Net/atpiii/calculator.Asp to calculate your risk for a heart attack over the next 10 years. &lt;10% is low risk while &gt;20% is high risk. If latter, goal LDL is &lt;100mg/dl. If former, goal LDL is &lt;160mg/dl. Focus on that 1st. Use nutrition & exercise to trim your waist which will lower triglycerides (&lt;150) & raise hdl. Also need to lower (optimize) blood pressure & sugars.

Probably Great; but: cholesterol is a fat molecule building block of every animal cell membrane (enables membrane fluidity/movement without tearing), made by every animal cell &amp; fundamental to the survival of every animal cell. Lipoproteins (proteins which transport all fats in the water outside cells) = correct issue for artery disease (e.g. LDL ≤700 nmol/l, Large-HDL ≥10 µmol/l). Cholesterol ↓$ test, but misleading.

Not necessarily: It depends on how your total cholesterol is made up.  
The HDL portion is considered more protective, and the LDL portion is considered more atherogenic (more likely to cause cholesterol buildup in the arteries).
If your total has a high HDL and a low ldl, the overall general pattern is considered more healthful than a high LDL and low HDL pattern.

Live better: Cholesterol has a genetic predisposition as well as lifestyle component. Improving your diet and exercising are key.  Eat low glycemic is key b/c sugar can increase cholesterol as well.  Eat good fats such as nuts in moderation, olive oil, avocados. Eat more plants, eat lean proteins, and exercise!  use more fish oil to help.

80%: Only about 20% of your cholesterol is due to dietary intake.  Cholesterol is necessary for building neurotransmitters, cell walls, cortisol, estrogen, testosterone and many other useful things in your body.  Some people just make too much.

Depends: If you do not have other health issues, a total cholesterol of 91 per se, is not dangerous. 
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.
