Have you been seen?: Certainly, we are seeing many viral illnesses that involve cough and phlegm. But it sounds as though you are suffering here. Your back, neck, and side pain could be the result of straining to cough. I wonder if you have bronchitis or sinusitis. If you've had a history of asthma, you may be "hit harder" by these illnesses. Please go in to be checked - or rechecked. And drink your water! lgromkomd.

Need more info: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. If coughing clears the symptoms, nothing more may be needed.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Phlegm in throat: Phlegm in the throat associated with throat clearing and heartburn symptoms sounds like acid reflux.  Generally treatment would start out with acid avoidance (citrus, tomatoes, peppermint, coffee, peppermint, etc) Acid irritating the throat frequently results in increased mucous and prompts throat clearing.  I advise increasing water intake and consider starting an antacid.  See your doctor.

why do i have phlegm after i eat certain foods? if its something light like oatmeal its fine but usually after lunch or dinner i have phlegm that i need to clear. also, i dont know if its related, i have to take deep breaths every day?

: You're experiencing a type of reflux. It could be acid reflux but it may be the less common laryngopharangeal reflux. This may respond to meds like omeprazole or famotidine but often doesn't. Nevertheless it's worth trying. An ENT specialist could evaluate &amp; advise you. The need to take deep breaths without exertion is often a symptom of anxiety. Stress management therapy may be helpful for this.

Poor Asthma Control: Sounds like you have a history of poorly controlled asthma. With 4 months of worsening cough and atelectasis on CXR I would recommend seeing a physician who specializes in managing asthma like an allergist or pulmonologist if not already done so in order to get better control of your symptoms.

Reactive airways?: Reactive airways, or  asthma, can be triggered by lung infections and requires inhalers for treatment, which would explain why only your symptoms of bronchitis or pneumonia improved.  Residual pneumonia , pleuritis or heart problems can also be the cause.  Recheck needed :)
