Probably: We usually recommend patients take their medications daily.  The way to confirm if it is working or not is to take it every other day for 90 days, then recheck your labs.  If the numbers are similar to daily lower dose, then you should be fine going forward.

simvastatin: The data for Simvastatin effective use are based on once a day. It may work every other day but no good data to support that.

i have a weak liver. 20mg atorvastatin daily lowered my liver func.  hence simvastatin 10mg every alt. day is prescribed. is it safe for the liver?

Accepted Answer

Can affect liver: so have liver functions retested in a couple of months. If elevated could try Zetia (ezetimibe) or a fenofibrate.

i take 20mg of simvastatin at night,heard it affects your muscles,when i first lay down my muscles will crack,it dont do it as much during the day or later at night,is it the simvastatin doing it?how can i stop it,i take collagen and vit d every day?

: I don't think simvastatin is a cause of cracking of.muscles,tendons,joints or ligaments &amp; it's telling that you don't mention muscular soreness during daytime activities, but muscle soreness &amp; achiness are possible side effects of simvastatin even in small doses. 
 Pravastatin &amp; rosuvastatin, being hydrophilic, are much less likely to cause muscular discomfort.

i feel bloated every evening , even when i only  eat 1 banana  and 1 apple  all day   i am on 2 meds. lisinopril 20 mg, simvastatin. 10 mg. why ?

Swallowing air: You're probably swallowing air. Do you belch alot? (a symptom of aerophagia). Neither of your meds are likely to be responsible. Your diet is very unhealthy.  Why are you doing that? Try a balanced diet, even if you're restricting your calories.

Synvastatin : Synvastatin is a statin that has been shown to reduce the inflamation in infklammatory arthropaties , or better known as arthritis. There is no evidence that the statins could contribute or be part of the etiology or the cause of rheumatoid arthritis.

Could be statin: Simvastatin can definitely cause muscle aches.  The way to tell if a medication causing a side effect (or symptom) is to stop taking the medication for awhile (2-3 weeks) to see if the problem goes away.

Snake oil: Hi. Vitamin D3 is awesome for vitamin D deficiency, and oral vitamin B12 is awesome for vitamin B12 deficiency that is not due to pernicious anemia (autoimmune B12 defic.), but they are not a treatment for depression. There are no scientific data to support rhodiola for depression. They're all very nice placebo for depression. At least simvastatin and l-thyroxine are being used for real reasons(?)

Can call Dr on video: Some common causes of lower back pain include: back muscle strain, back ligament sprain, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, urine infection, kidney infection, kidney stone, spinal tumor, cancer in the kidney or other places, fractured vertebra, fibromyalgia, other bacterial infection, etc...  A man in his 60's with very uncomfortable back pain can see his doctor today or the ER.

Sure: This s very serious. I wonder whether you have familial hypercholesterolemia. It kills people who use it, often at your age or a little later. Flax seed is unlikely to help more than a little bit. Best wishes.
