None if 1 is taken.: If an abnormal parathyroid gland is removed there should be no side effects,  if one normal gland is removed during thyroid surgery there also should be no side effects.  If all 4 normal glands are removed a very low blood calcium will occur causing tingling and cramps and rarely seizures.  This can be treated.

Low blood calcium: If one parathyroid gland is removed complications are unusual.  If all 4 glands are removed blood calcium levels develop immediately and if untreated lead to tingling and cramps and occasionally a seizure.  A nerve supplying a vocal cord could also be damaged and cause hoarseness.

Check electrolytes: After a major surgery like parathyroidectomy, significant electrolyte chnages can take place presenting as generalized swelling or swellig of the dependent parts of the body. Thyroid function should also be checked. Better see your surgeon for follow up.

Good question!: Parathyroid hormone (pth_ causes two main effects - a decrease in phosphorous in the blood, and an increase in calcium.  If a body makes too much PTH (constant, high levels) it will leach the calcium from the bones to keep the blood levels up.  Injections, however, are intermittent, lower concentrations that can stimulate bone strengthening by absorbing the calcium in the bood.

Possibly: Damage or excess removal of those tissues may result in underactive thyroid. There are 4 parathyroid glands so damage to one or two should not cause hypoparathyroidism. Either way such a patient should be followed with periodic testing of thyroid function and parathyroid functions such as serum calcium levels by the endocrinologist or head and neck surgeon.

Whoa: Your breathing muscles need no special vitamins beyond what you'll get with a halfway reasonable diet. What concerns me is your having an elevated parathyroid hormone. Either you have a parathyroid adenoma / hyperplasia which is really serious, or you are vitamin d deficient. You need to address this. You'll feel much better. Again, please forgive my frankness & do right by yourself.

: The lesion is more consistent with a thyroid cyst than a parathyroid adenoma due to the lack of blood flow. If the PTH level has been high for 2 years so I wonder why calcium is normal.

Usually none.: Usually, removing a single parathyroid gland/tumor is straightforward and complications are rare. It is common, however to have a deficiency of vitamin d while hyperparathyroid, and this will need to be corrected after the surgery. Infrequent complications could include hoarseness, permanent low calcium and parathyroid levels, or hypothyroidism, in the rare case where the thyroid is taken out.

Do you mean thryroid: Biopsy? In any case , bleeding , injury to the gland are the possible side effect . There is possibility of injury to recurrent laryngeal nerve though not common
