None if 1 is taken.: If an abnormal parathyroid gland is removed there should be no side effects, if one normal gland is removed during thyroid surgery there also should be no side effects. If all 4 normal glands are removed a very low blood calcium will occur causing tingling and cramps and rarely seizures. This can be treated.
