i was diagnosed with a sinus infection but my lungs were clear. ihave been spitting up yellow mucus with streaks of blood. is this normal?

Yes: The fluid from your nose runs backward into your throat. From there, it stimulates coughing or spitting. The yellow mucous with streaks of blood is from your sinuses. This is good, it means that the mucous is moving out of your sinuses and your infection is starting to clear up. Good luck.

small streaks of blood in phlegm/spit returned after 10 days on doxycycline for sinus infection. not coughing it up do i need more meds?

Sinus disease: The sinuses are aerated chambers that often get closed off and infected. Antibiotics are helpful but the important thing is to open them up again so they will drain. This is often achieved by using gentle saline solution or inhaled nasal steroids. Make sure the air you are breathing is not too dry. Occasionally topical antibiotics will help with the healing.

i have a sinus infection. i keep tasting blood in my mouth. should i be worried?

Maybe: I would have the infection treated. But the blood is from the tissue of the nose and sinus cavities being inflammed and "friable" (more likely to bleed).

See your PCP: A persistent cough can be a symptom of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). See your PCP for consultation and 24-hour pH probe test.

my overall blood work was good. i did have 0.1 nucleated red blood cell. what does that mean? 33 years old, recently had ringworm and sinus infection?

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, 0.1 nucleated red cells is normal and not a cause for concern.     Wish you good health!

Lab results: An elevated Hemoglobin and Hematocrit (h &amp;h) with elevated platelets are commonly associated with dehydration. There other conditions that raise the h&amp;h like polycythemia vera, hemochromatosis, sleep apnea, chronic obstructive lung disease, testosterone use. The platelets can rise from infection,  anemia( which is not consistent with a high H&amp;h), and other blood conditions. Speak to your doctor.

: The capillaries inside the nasal passages are fragile and will often break/leak from minor trauma including blowing the nose. By itself, the presence of bloody mucous does not define or suggest a sinus infection. If you develop fever, localized pain over a sinus, or heavy cloudy nasal drainage it may be evidence of a sinus infection.

: The nasal membranes have a bountiful supply of small capillaries near the surface. These are often irritated during any sinus infection and easily break/leak with forceful sneezes. They selfheal over time.

i have a sinus infection and have taken clarithromycin since monday. i've started coughing up a little blood. is this normal? is it an emergency?

Not normal: But it may not be an emergency if it is simply a little blood tinged mucus, as it may be a simple aspect of your sinus infection/inflammation.  Get checked by dr. During normal business hours in the next 24 h and you should be ok.  If severe bleeding, then get urgent care.
