Post-nasal drip.: When you have a nose bleed, blood can go posteriorly and drip into your throat.  That can irritate your throat, causing you to cough up the blood.

brown specks in mucus from cough. is it from my dry/bloody nose?

Accepted Answer

: It probably is.  Nasacort may help with your sinus problems.  If you are a smoker, you should quit.  Stay hydrated.
You could use k-Y jelly on your nasal mucosa to help keep it moist.  Check with our PCP.

had a cold for 13 days: bad cough, mucus, blocked/ bloody nose. i coughed a lot, i hurt my right rib cage, now pain when i breathe. how can i help it?

Costrocondritis: Inflammation and possibly a pulled muscle from coughing.. Tylenol will help. An over the counter cough suppressant would be a good idea too. Since it’s been present for almost 2 weeks, it would be a good idea to see your doctor.

im 25 weeks pregnant and have had a severe cold / cough this week. bloody nose the past 3 days , mucus is a very dark green. today my phlegm had blood?

See a doctor: With these sorts of symptoms, you need answers. I would worry that your platelet count might have dropped as a result of the viral infection - allowing the blood to become thinner, such that you'd have nose bleeding and blood in the sputum. Hopefully you're plugged into an Ob/Gyn practice - I would call them and try to get seen today. If it's after hours and you're not doing well- go to the ER.

is it normal to get nose bleeds with bronchitis? i have sob, cough, mild fever, yellow phlegm, & so far today, 2 nose bleeds. it seemed like a lot of blood to me (2-3 tissues covered). with 2nd, phlegm was bloody, too. or do i have something else?

: Yes, it is possible to have nosebleed from rhinitis on top of bronchitis. Bloody phlegm is due to tainting pulmonary mucus with blood in the back throat. In general, all symptoms should resolve within the next 7 days. Due to the presence of shortness of breath, chest X-ray should be done if shortness of breath gets worse or symptoms do not abate by next week. Good luck.

i woke up with blood in my mouth this am. my throat seemed dry causing me to wake up and causing me to cough a couple times. i don't have bloody nose?

Many possibilities: Could be a dental or gum issue, could be a slight bleed from a small superficial vessel in your throat or back of your tongue. If you have been taking Aspirin or non steroidal antiinflammatory medication it can make a tiny amount of blood more significant. Out of 100 people i see with stories like yours i find only 1 or 2 with anything significant. I still would recommend you see an ENT doctor.

can a sinus infection be bad enough to infect my mouth and facial bones but i don't cough or sneeze a lot, or have a fever? bloody nose some mornings.

Usually not: This sounds like something much more than a typical sinus infection. Sounds like you need to see a doctor and possibly get a ct scan of the facial bones and/or sinus.

Evaluation : Please see your physician. Watch for respiratory distress and prolonged cough. Monitor temperature, rest and drink fluids.
