i got a colonoscopy done and the report says "adenomatous polyp, polyp removed, with high grade dysplasia". polyp was 26mm. no history of colon cancer. what does this mean? what kind of questions/tests should i ask when i meet my gastroenterologist?

Polyp: Most importantly ask when the next screening colonoscopy should be done as your colon polyp, size and microscopically,  indicates that this was a great pickup. Also there is risk for more polyp formation in the future. Ask your gastroenterologist if there's any dietary advice or advisability of taking low dose aspirin as preventative measures for polyp formation or development of colon cancer

See your physician: If you truely have colon cancer you are on the right track by having a colonosopy. It does not sound like you have that diagnosis as yet. Your anxiety prior to an actual diagnosis could be the cause of your muscle weakness and weight loss.

i did a ct scan came back negative for diverticulitis but showed a narrowing of the colon. 3cm. other organs are ok. does it mean i have colon cancer? i have no blood in stool but i had two episode of complete blockage with vomiting. colonoscopy next

Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

my daughter is 38 her dentist gave her a mouth swab to check for bacteria and the dentist advised her the swab revealed she is at high risk for colon cancer. this sounds like buffoonery to me that a dentist would advise a patient of this ?

: You apparently are not as informed as your daughter's dentist is. Your daughter most likely has periodontitis.Certain oral bacteria make their way into the gut and alter balance of resident microbes. This orally-driven disruption promotes aberrant immune and inflammatory responses, eventually leading to colorectal cancer (CRC).

Partially yes: The staging information is generally favorable. The T3 (liothyronine) means that this tumor was involving the bowel wall but not the surrounding organs and this may have contributed to the perforation during the dissection. My advise is when you see an oncologist, make sure to point out this information. Even though you are node negative, the oncologist may be more willing to recommend chemotherapy to be safer.

: You need to separate the follow up for Colon Cancer(for this you need to see your doctor every 6 months to 12 month intervals) and for the colon Polyps. The advice for 2 yearly rechecks is strictly for the Colon polyps  which can reappear and require recheck at 2-3 year intervals. Good luck.

: While it is possible, the risk would be low. In general it takes about 10 years for colon cancer to develop. 
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

Reason &amp;indication: Yes,  in asymptomatic general population  surveillance colonoscopy done at age of  50 the common age for colon cancer If you have symptoms , including genetic predisposition above rule does not apply , done at any age. Age is no exception to cancer Do not get panicky  Speak to your doctor and go for preliminary simple investigations first, before under taking complex tests.

Yes.: There is only one test that has been shown to improve  survival and that is checking the stool for blood.  One should have a colonoscopy at age 50.  So it does allow the physician to view the colonic mucosa and see if any abnormality is detected.

No: The standard method to detect colon cancer is a colonscopy- plus it gives the doctor a chance to get a biopsy at the same time. A pet is a very useful test for figuring out the extent of colon cancer once a diagnosis has been made- it is not used as a test to detect cancer at present..
