Diabetes: Most common reason for high blood sugar is poor diet. Sorry but it's true. In other words, my patients can always out eat any amount of Insulin i prescribe. So it's very important to eat low glycemic foods as suggested by your diabetic education/nutritionist. Next most common cause is an underlying infection. Always check bottom of your feet for nails, objects, etc. Most important, follow up w/doc.

Sugars: Yes. Absolutely.  The urine glucose would only be positive with a level around 350 mg/dl or higher.  One should never follow their sugars with urine testing.

The : The general answer is that it depends on your line of work.  Typically shoulder strengthening does not begin until 3 months postoperatively, and full recovery can take 6-9 months.  If you work a desk job, it can be as early as 5-7 days to return to work, but if your work involves lifting, overhead activities, etc, it could be more like 3-4 months.

Yes: Glucose is available in oral form which is useful for patients feeling an insulin reaction coming on.  Glucose is common in infusions and does give quicker access than the oral form but obviously more involved than oral dosage.

Diabetes: 3+ sugar in urine means the person is  diabetic.He/she needs to have blood sugar, metabolic profile 
if the patient is a known diabetic he/she is not control and may need Insulin pre and post surgery
if this sugar is new needs to be treated with Insulin pero operatively and has to be followed up by medical doctors or endocrinologist.

Sort of: By definition, "random glucose" is glucose testing done without respect to meals, and so would include fasting glucose.

More often if...: If you have a close monitoring from your doctor, you have a good control of your daily carbs, your glucose levels meet all the criteria and you are sure that glucose is not getting too high with meals; then once a day is ok. However, if those requirements are not fulfilled, it is advisable to measure glucose before main meals and two hours after, to be sure glucose is not getting too high.

No need to gain wt.: Your weight is fine. Gaining weight will make control of diabetes more difficult. You will gain weight as you age so there is no need to deliberately increase your weight.

Glucose: Patients on short acting insulin often check their sugar 4 times a day, while patients who use oral medications check less often. Patients whose A1c levels who are at goal may not need frequent checks. Be careful if any of your medications can cause hypoglycemia since this would require more frequent checks.

: It is better to test fasting glucose. After eating the level will depend on what you ate and how much you ate. Get your A1c level checked and aim to keep it below 7.0.
