If bilateral, this is a bad diagnosis with poor prognosis for survival and even poorer for intact survivial and few treatment options with any chance of long-term success.

Fertility ?'s: Dermoid cysts are benign and do not influence fertility.  If your surgeon did not evaluate if your tubes were open at the laparotomy, ask about a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), a fluroscopic procedure instilling sterile liquid into the tubes which can also clear the tubes, allowing repair if necessary. Blocked tubes from infection is the most common reason statistically for infertility.

A long ways to go...: Dilated to 2cm:  The bottom of the uterus (The cervix) is open about 3/4 of an inch.  Fully dilated is 10cm.  Effacement: The cervix is 4-5cm long.  50% effaced means that the cervix has thinned to 2 - 2.5cm.  Station:  When your Ob checks your cervix, he/she can feel a landmark called the Ischial Spine.  When the fetal head is at this point it is at zero station.  -3 Station means 3cm above.
