tore my achilles tendon end of sept. between a 2 -3 on the scale. severe charlie horses first 10 days, swelling in calf, brusing, swelling in ankle. so i'm out about 2 months. walking gate is close to normal. what exercises should i be doing ?

i tore my calf and achilles tendon 2 weeks ago and past 3 days my foot and ankle have swollen up badly and now my left leg from knee down is bigger than the right one.

Doctor can examine: A person who has on leg newly swell up, but has no new reason for it, should be evaluated by her doctor or the ER. Treatment depends on the amount of swelling, how fast it is increasing, and the actual cause swelling. New swelling in only one leg may mean a blood clot in that leg, which can be fatal. That is why ER evaluation is important. Recent injury makes it more easy to get a blood clot.

Effusions: As mentioned in the previous answer an effusion, which causes excess fluid to fill the joint are most likely causing the acute symptoms.  But, the reason for the effusion could very well be tendon or ligament injuries. Effusions are the result of an injury.

May or may not : Be related. The peroneal longus tendon inserts on the base of the first metatarsal and this may have something to do with the function of the great toe. Xrays to rule out hallux limitus/rigidus and clinical exam are warranted.

Yes, get it checked: With immobilization you should have been displaying signs of improvement.  I would suggest having it examined and possibly having further diagnostic tests such as a ct, MRI or ultrasound to evaluate the soft tissue.  Radiographs (x-rays) only highlight the bones and joints.  Not only could you have a soft tissue injury but the burning you are feeling could be impingement of a nerve in the area.

Go see MD: After a week most minor injuries to the knee should be getting better. The possible injuries are extensive and need to be evaluated by an orthopedist, sports med doc or joint specialst (rheumatologist), depending on who you have access to. Stay off it a much as possible until it is checked out.

Yes: The Achilles' tendon is formed from the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles which attach to the back of your calf and run from behind the knee to the ankle/ foot. Injury to this area can affect the whole area.  I assume the muscle tendon attachment was not injured as well, but if you have not seen a sports doc, please get an accurate diagnosis. Topical and oral NSAIDs, icing, rest. are the treatments
