Possibly not: Drug testing can detect even minute amounts of painkillers and other drugs.  If your job requires drug testing, you need to find out which pain medications are ok:  tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil probably are, but vicodin or other narcotics even in small amounts probably are not.  Consult your pain management doctor for more advice, and help in cutting down on any medications that could cause you problems.

i was given methadone almost 2 weeks ago and it was basically a one time thing and i just took a drug test at my pain management will it show up?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: Probably not. Methadone is a long acting opioid with a urine half-life of up to 2-3 days. Metabolties may last longer. Since it was only a one time dose, it is likely to have cleared by now. To be safe, tell your pain management physician about it.

Not usually: Naloxone is not screened for in most tests used for that purpose, although in larger amounts it may cross-react with the test for morphine/codeine.  If confirmatory testing is done (gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy and others), Naloxone can be specifically identified, if one is looking for it. Did you od and get treated with naloxone? Your doctors need to know that immediately.

Not specifically: but in my experience, larger amounts of it, like in people on Suboxone 8/2 who are taking 3-4 tablets a day can come up positive for opiates, and when tested for each specific opiate (morphine, codeine, oxycodone, oxymorphone, hydromorphone, hydrocodone) they all test negative.  So, I think that Naloxone in high doses can come up positive for opiates. There are specific tests for buprenorphine.

Yes: It really depends on what test was ordered.  However, most urine drug tests use mass spectrometry - so they can determine the different chemicals present in the urine.  And yes, usually pain management clinics want to determine if you're taking the medication as prescribed - so they monitor drug concentration levels. Hope that helps!

You should: As long as you have a current prescription it should not affect your testing. I suggest bringing a letter from your pharmacy or a voided copy of your prescription to show the person in charge of administering the drug test.

would klonopin and xanax (alprazolam) come up as just benzos or 2 specific things in a drug test by pain management clinic? same question for oxycodone 5mg

Accepted Answer

Depends on what drug: test they are doing.  They are NOT all the same.  Some screening tests will not pick up clonazepam (klonopin) at all, while other forms of drug testing will.  In some kinds of tests, it will be differentiated, while others will just say positive for benzodiazepines.  Oxycodone also requires some specialized testing, and many opiate tests will not detect it. Most tests now test for all of them.

Urine Drug Screen: Synthetic opioids, including fentanyl, meperidine, methadone, pentazocine, propoxyphene, and tramadol, are not detected by routine opioid screening.

Dirty test: If by dirty test you mean you failed urine drug screening, that is a sign of drug addiction. No physician would like to prescribe pain meds for you for fear of abuse. If you have a legitimate reason for pain, try seeking interventional therapies for pain rather than medications.

Urine Drug Screen: Its a urine drug screen test. The conf stands for confirmation. If any drugs are detected, the lab will confirm it using a fancy technology known as lc/ms or some other. Omedmatch: the lab will test for prescribed medications so doctor can make sure it is being taken by the patient and not diverted. You'll be seeing more urine when the baby is born.
