Swelling: there are a number of things that can cause swelling in this area and you need to see a dentist for an exam to find out what is going on in your mouth. This is more likely an infection that needs to be treated and not the herpes.

what causes tonsils to be swollen for two months? when they started swelling they had white spots on them but now they are just red and big. i also have some sort of bump under my tongue and some brown dots on my inner cheeks... could this be a std?

Wild card.: This could be a plugged salivary gland.  These swell when salivary flow increases (often before and at mealtime) and shrink up when is decreases; this cycles through a typical day. It could also be something either more or less serious. See your dentist or oral surgeon and get a first-hand evaluation with a plan of action; put it behind you & worry no more ;-).

Virus infection: Ulcer on tongue is often caused by a virus infection and should resolve in a few days. Mouth washes containing hydrogen peroxide should help to relieve the symptoms. If the problem continues a visit with your doctor is needed to rule out other causes of tongue swelling such as vitamin deficiencies.

Swelling: Lots of possibilities including, but not limited to, allergic response, blocked salivary ducts, burn, trauma, change in meds, systemic problem such as Diabetes, etc.  Make appt to return to Dentist in 2 weeks.  If veins still appear swollen, referral to Oral Surgeon may be in order.

A few possibilities: Tongue swelling, either part or all of the tongue, can be due to many causes, such as: allergic reactions (may be a 911 emergency), irritants (chewing on leaves containing crystals), infections (from piercings), trauma (bit tongue), enlarged lingual tonsils (tongues have tonsil-type tissue in the back portion), diseases that deposit substances inside the tongue, tumors, burns, etc...
