i got 5 fillings the other day, two being my front teeth. i was flossing the right front tooth, the lateral incisor, and a very small clear piece wedged into my gum. is that normal? should i call my dentist?

Accepted Answer

: That could be a sliver of excess adhesive. If you can floss it out, great, otherwise have your dentist remove it for you. This happens now and then with bonding.

is it called air abrasion when a dentist just wants to lighten front teeth a shade or two since there is a lighter colored crown present?

Micro abrasion: Is the name of the procedure    works well in combination with bleaching.  Hope this helps.

one orthodontist recommends polishing my front teeth.  why is it called polishing teeth when it really is grinding/cutting them down?

Accepted Answer

Not really grinding: This depends on what they are using to "polish" and why/what they are "polishing".  Most likely they are using a very fine sanding disk or a diamond impregnated rubber point to polish off cement/stain etc.  Now this is not to say that some tooth structure may/will be removed but it is very minimal.  If you are still questioning it just ask more question or don't do it.  no worries

i need a root canal on top premolar think it's called (3rd or 4th tooth from the middle front teeth). will i need a hard palate injection?

: Possibly, but not always. Even if you do, the pain of the injection lasts just a couple of seconds.

i have a small red lump that is uncomfortable to touch, but not painful, on my palate just behind the two front teeth. should i be concerned?

This is normal: Many people have small gaps between their front teeth. Most likely most other people do not notice it hen they look at you. This is only a problem if it bothers you. Several options are available if you really want to go through the time and expense to close this gap. Options include orthodontic treatment, composite build ups and veneers. Your dentist can help you chose the best option forbyou.

i have a supernumerary tooth behind my two front teeth. it created a space between them and pushed one forward. can i have it extracted?

Yes. With risks : It can be removed. But at your age there is a greater risk to adjacent teeth. There is a risk to the very close incisive papillae which houses a nerve , artery, and vein. Choose your dentist carefully and have x-rays taken from multiple angles. Look for a dentist who uses cbct--cone beam.

if you have a small gap in the two front teeth and you got a thick nacho stuck in the middle for two seconds, will it possibbly increase the gap size?

No: No, not unless those teeth were already incredibly loose to begin with!

Composite filling: Your dentist should be able to restore these teeth with a white, bonded, composite filling. This will both get rid of the cavity and fill in the gap as well.

didn't wear my retainer for 1 year, two teeth have shifted very slightly to be overlapping behind the front teeth. how can i fix this? is this bad?

Accepted Answer

Short term ortho: You can have short term orth again to correct the issue.  Truly it's not a huge issue but if you are concerned by it I would have it looked at.  No worries
