These sharp pains,last seconds, and may radiate around the side. They are more of a nuisance rather than serious. Discuss this with your physician if you have further concerns.

Short time.: If lesion is benign such as bone cyst or benign cartilage tumor it may be unrecognized for many  months.  If malignant, the lesion will expand and produce pressure on rib periosteum which can cause significant pain, especially if it is metastatic.
