Rib cage: A common cause of sharp,shooting rib cage pains,often worse with a deep breath, is a pinched intercostal nerve that runs between two ribs. These sharp pains,last seconds, and may radiate around the side. They are more of a nuisance rather than serious. Discuss this with your physician if you have further concerns.
