Needs more time: It will take a few days for this to improve; no antibiotic works in only 12 hours. No STI causes tooth infections or pain. If you have other symptoms like penile discharge, painful urination, or genital sores or bumps, or if at risk for STI, get checked. But not because of the dental problem. Check back with the dentist if the tooth problem continues.

Tooth infection: NO. Do not take left over antibiotics prescribed for someone else or for another reason. Only take prescription medication for the purpose they are prescribed.

Not much: Otc pain medication, salt water rinses and perhaps finding a dentist who will see you on monday.

Antibiotic: Antibiotics are not available OTC as Rx has to be tailored to your need, therefore must be prescribed by a Dentist.  Antibiotics do NOT cure dental infections, only limit the spread into other organ systems, and infection will come roaring back once you come off the Meds.  To cure a Dental Infection requires Dental Treatment (root canal or extraction).  See a Dentist ASAP.

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) : Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is not an antibiotic normally used for infections of the mouth, since it kills bacteria not normally associated with oral infections.

You should call the office you have an appointment with and ask for a prescription to hold you over until your appointment.

Assuming you: Are not allergic to the penicillin family of antibiotics, you should have little concern with the prescribed medication, even w pregnancy. Check with your ob, but i'm sure it's probably ok.

Tooth abscess: A tooth abscess is an inflamation caused by a bacterial infection. Penicillin will help to ameliorate the problem, but the tooth abscess has to be drained to get  rid of the infection. I think it will be ok to see your dentist next week. However if you have trouble breathing or swallowing go to er or urgent care.

Unwarranted fear: In over 40 years of dental practice, I have never heard of anyone dying in their sleep from a tooth infection.  Actually, I never heard of it happening ever! Just get seen and treated tomorrow. I hope you are getting routine dental check-ups and appropriate treatment every six months.
