i've been having warm sensation in fingers on both hands. no diabetes. not sick. what could be causing this?

Possible CTS: Even though there have been carpal tunnel release procedures, that does not preclude reocurrence from scar tissue. Further evaluation with EMG studies might be considered to establish whether or not this is the case.  Other studies might include assessment with blood tests for vitamin deficiencies or possible raynauds phenomena.

Nondiagnostic: These symptoms are nondiagnostic. The initial warmth sensation is quite nonspecific but could have triggered some tension in your neck and scalp muscles. I would try to relax and observe for any other more specific symptoms at this time.

35 year old male. my left arm is substantially sore in the region of the bicep and and triceps just above the elbow and the skin in that area is noticeably warm to the touch. i have been getting tingling sensation in my fingers as well. any thoughts?

: Sounds like biceps and triceps muscle strain probably from putting excessive pressure/ weight on them. Best to remove the cause of strain/pressure and relax them. Some warm water compress massage with application of relaxing cream/ muscle relaxants can help. If symptoms persist see PCP.

Raynaud's Disease: This sounds like raynaud's disease, which is when one gets discolored, cold and sometimes painful fingers or toes due to vasospasm (the small blood vessels in the fingers / toes contracting down and inhibiting the blood flow). Emotional stress and cold temperatures are triggers. It is important to figure out the cause, so seeing a specialist is a good idea.

?Raynaud's: We need more information and a physician will need to assess you in person. If its persistent and your fingers are particularly sensitive to extremes of temperature, I would see a vascular specialist to check circulation. Would do some blood work to make sure its not related to systemic illness affecting blood vessels.

Proper Warmup: I treat a lot of musicians.  Cold hands are a common problem, with several possible causes.  The best treatment is a proper warmup before beginning to play.  You should do 5-10 minutes of gentle exercise using big muscles prior to sitting down to practice.  This can be walking up & down steps, squats, sit-ups, jumping jacks.  Don't get all sweaty, but get your pulse rate up.

Doctor can evaluate: Rashes are quite hard to describe and diagnose in words. A primary dr. Or a dermatologist can look at it in order to tell what it is. If an eczema rash, Hydrocortisone cream helps. Itchy little bumps of 1-2mm size, that come and go on the fingers, may be dyshidrosis, a form of eczema. Some rashes are an allergy to something. A dr.'s exam can help, especially if few days of Hydrocortisone hasn't.

If warm, swollen,: painful &amp; red you may have a wound infection. Please consult with your doctor.

my fingers swell when i exercise, even when i take a long walk on warm days. what might be causing this?

Accepted Answer

Probably normal: I doubt anyone has ever studied this completely, but i believe it is a normal response to exercise in many people as i too experience it.  I'm quite sure it has to do with the redistribution of blood in the body during exercise through the physiological process of the blood vessels dilating.  Limit your daily sodium intake to 2 grams; sodium may aggravate it and may also cause high blood pressure.
