when can i resume red light (rlt) and infrared light led treatments after eye surgery? is rlt safe with gas bubble in eye? i just had vitrectomy and scleral buckle surgery for detached retina. i have c3f8 gas bubble in eye. i am one week post op?

: As long as your eyes are protected I can see no reason to hold off.

my gas bubble is very small after one week post op vitrectomy. my vision is like a milk hazy gel. when will it be clear? is this normal?

Post op vitrectomy: Gas reabsorption depends on type of gas, concentration, and other factors.  Visual recovery generally depends upon what the pre-op vision was.  The rate of recovery is dependent upon what the surgery was done to repair.  Total recovery of vision can occur after vitrectomy.  Often times, however, this is not possible due to damage done by the retina being off, cataract, or other factors.

i'm one week post op vitrectomy.at the f/u the doctor said i had a re bleed. is this normal and will this bleed go away. no retinal det.

Not uncommon: This would not be an uncommon occurrence, especially while a person is taking Aspirin and ibuprofen.  Usually these small bleeds will clear without complication.  Any extreme symptoms should be reported back to the surgeon, such as pain, loss of vision, substantial increase in floaters.

1 week post op vitrectomy.  how long should i wait to wear eye makeup and my contact lenses again?

Accepted Answer

Longer: You can wear contact lenses in the un-operated eye, but not in the operated eye until allowed by the surgeon. I would avoid eyeliner and makeup that could come in contact with the tear layer until allowed by the surgeon also. You are probably using postoperative eye drops, and these would not go well with contact lenses.

Depends on meds: Your surgeon likely used a postoperative mydriatic/cycloplegic agent that keeps your pupil dilated &amp; you ciliary muscle relaxed, both to ease postoperative pain. Occasionally, if laser endophotocoagulation is used during the vitrectomy, there is an infrequent occurence of residual mydriasis (iridoplegia) from laser damage of the short ciliary nerves. Most cases: dilation may last few weeks.

3weeks post op for vitrectomy with gas bubble due to retinal detachment. is it better to be active and use the eye for bubble to reabsorb?

Accepted Answer

No: Follow your eye surgeon's recommendations. Often maintaining a certain position, such as face down, or sleeping on the right side, is important to keep the gas bubble in contact with the area of the retina where the detachment occurred. Moving too much early in the healing phase could case your retina to re-detach.

See below: Pars plana vitrectomy (ppv) is performed using small instruments that pass through the white of the eye (scleral). The vitrector cuts up and aspirates the vitreous jelly. This allows access by the surgeon to the underlying retina for therapeutic surgical maneuvers like membrane peeling, laser application, and/or gas/oil tamponade depending on the diagnosis needing surgery.
