i'm 27, my tongue is pierced. once in a while the left side of the bottem ball hurts. i now have noticed black veins under my tongue. normal?

Trauma or.....: Trauma or infection are most common causes of soreness.  Please see a Dentist.  Trauma means tissue damage.  Infection can spread.  Please see a Dentist.  Dark veins under tongue probably normal (sub-lingual veins).  See a Dentist to make sure.  Know that the balls can cause traumatic injury and recession to gums/bone.  Balls can also fracture teeth.  Tongue piercing just isn't healthy or smart.

Relax: Blue veins on underside of tongue are normal.  As to necrotizing fasciitis, in over 50 years of dental training and practice I have not heard of even one case.  Your sublingual pain, however, should be investigated.  Scores of possible answers.  See your Dentist or an Oral Medicine specialist for examination.

Veins under tongue: It is normal to have darkened looking veins under the tongue.  Veins are carrying blood without oxygen, which gives the dark color.  However it is always best to have an examination to ensure that no other problems in the mouth exist.  Take care.

Common: This is common and most likely normal.  There is a large number of superficial veins just below the under surface of the tongue.  This is the reason that medications can be absorbed into the blood stream by placement medications "under the tongue".  The overlying skin of the base of the tongue is very thin.  Thus, veins may look prominent and dark in color.
