Limited Downtime: Most have very little downtime associated with evlt laser therapy or with vnus radiofrequency closure of enlarged varicose veins. Most patients may return to normal activites  1 day after the procedures. We require patients to wear thigh length compression stockings 24/7 for 2 weeks.  The stockings can be removed to shower.  Most patients take Aleve (naproxen) or Motrin for minor pain. Few require narcotics.

Surprisingly little: Laser surgery for varicose veins causes surprsingly little pain afterwards.  You will have some bruising that might be a little tender.  You might feel a mild tight, pulling, or stretching feeling over the treated vein for several days.  Walking makes this feel better.  Taking Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) is usually all anyone ever needs for discomfort and, oftentimes, people don't even take anything.

Laser should help.: Klippel traunany syndrome consists of 3 components-varicose veins, hypertrophy (enlargement) of a limb and port-wine stain.The varicose veins should first be evaluated by a venous reflux exam as well as the deep veins.Laser closure is the gold standard for the varicose veins but there is no guarantee that other veins will not  form in the future.There is also a role for sclerotherapy.See a vein md.

No: You should see the doctor who did your laser vein surgery becaseu drainage or weeping is deflinitely not something that we whould consider to be normal.

Normal: Endovenous laser ablation results in the vein being heated which then constricts over time and dissolves.  During this process which can take several months, the lasered vein will become hard then soft.  Another reason for the hard areas could be where veins were disconnected by microphlebectomies (small puncture holes).  This can cause areas of clotted blood to form (hematoma) which will be hard.

Sclerotherapy: You might be a candidate for sclerotherapy.  It's a procedure where the physician injects a salt based solution directly into the veins.  This will cause the vessel to scar and disappear from view.

father has factor 5 leiden.am due for endovenous laser surgery on saphenous vein for varices under local anaesthetic.should i be tested?is it risky?

No : Does your father have a heterozygous or a homozygous factor v leiden?
In the setting of no evidence of thrombosis/blood clots- you do not need to get a factor v leiden check. It is mainly a blood work. Your surgery is only local laser surgery - you should be fine. Post-op you should be able to be back on your feet and walk around again. Do not smoke, be active, avoid being sedentary, exercise.

Spider veins: Spider veins and vericose  veins are asociated with the following:  Age, obesity, multiple pregnancies, lack of exercise, standing occupations, genetics.  Things to do: walk/exercise, do not cross legs, try Natto or Vitamin K2 they help strenghten veins.  You may find regular vitamin c helpfull too.
