Maybe: If your doctor said it was fasciitis it might have been, but fasciitis doesn't unsuallyhave swelling. Was he treated? Your discription sounds like infecion or phlebitis. If it re-occurs maybe you should get a second opinion.

Yes,: Moist heat should be applied for inflammation  of a vein following superficial phlebitis. The redness should start to resolve within 48 to 72 hours.  If it doesn't or worsens then you may need antibiotics.  You should be seen by a vein specialist to guide your treatment and progress.

Phlebitis can either be in a superficial vein and is called superficial thrombophlebitis or in a deeper vein and is called dvt.  Infection is an inflammation of an area usually due to bacteria.If it is in the skin it is called cellulitis and if there is pus with it, it is called an abscess.

Keep extremities elevated with alternating heat and cold to the area affected. The veins affected may never be the same unfortunately

Caution Air Travel: Blood clots in the veins of the legs are a common problem with flying. The seats impede blood flow, sitting immobile (esp on flights greater than 6 hours), and mild dehydration all contribute. Phlebitis increases risk further. Discuss your plans with your doctor to find out when it will be safe to fly. Precautions: you will need fitted anti-embolism stockings and maybe some medication.

Its possible: If the foot injury is on the same side as the phlebitis, it is possible. In the area of treatment, you still need an anticoagulant (aspirin, Heparin shots, coumadin) for the phlebitis and compression. Usually phlebitis resolves with treatment in 3 to 6 months. Sometimes an ultrasound helps.

the phlebotomist had to refind my vein. the open needle touched his rubber glove slightly snagging it. he used the needle anyways. what is my risk and could i get an infection or disease?

: There is the possibility however you should not be anxious because most likely the glove is clean and that means bacteria count is low. Your blood has white blood cells and other mechanisms to quickly detect anything foreign and likely to round it up contain and clean it right away unless the contamination is overwhelming. If redness or swelling watch for two days, if getting better danger over.
