Sometimes none: Both of these bacteria can normally exist in the vagina. Usually symptoms don't occur un less the bacteria overgrows. At that point symptoms may include a vaginal discharge and possibly odor.

Antibiotics: Oral and topical antibiotics can help treat this.  See your doctor for an appropriate regimen.

Looks negative: In a lab culture looking for germs such as viruses or bacteria, NOT ISOLATED means the test did not grow out the germ it was looking for. That would mean negative.

i have chronic vaginal group b strep. i'm 65 years old. allergic to penicillan, amoxicilan, any cillans. clindamycin did not work. any suggestions? i now have burning, irritation and may have a uti also. i am prediabetic.

GBS: GBS is one of many germs considered normal in the digestive tract. The outlets proximity to the vagina make it a common contaminant of that area. Unless it is causing a UTI (verified by urine culture), or in the vaginal germs of a pregnant woman about to deliver it is often ignored ( not treated). I think you &amp; your doc need to sort out what/why this is an issue.

Yes: The test done for group b strep is a test to isolate vaginal or rectal colonization.  Vaginal and rectal collection is recommended for most accurate results.  Of course, it is important to not cause cross contamination by transferring bacteria from the rectum to the vagina.

U can get: Beat strep in the urine , vagina or from the rectum, in the us when we do a beta strep culture at 34-36 weeks we test the vagina and rectum.

No: Group b strep may be present in the vagina, rectum or bladder. Both swabs are needed because it is thought that the primary source is the rectum and you don't want to miss  a possible infection. There are no symptoms so it's important to screen properly in order to protect your baby.

No there is no risk: Vaginal exams are performed with a sterile speculum.  Even though approximately 25% of women are colonized with group b strep, it is highly unlikely that the speculum would enter the uterus to transmit the bacteria to the fetus.

GBS: Group b strep (gbs) is one of many bacteria that live on most people's body. When it lives on or around the vaginal area, a newborn baby has a higher risk of getting in or on the body.

Unfortunately, gbs can be deadly to a newborn.  Please talk to your doctor about what you can do to reduce this risk.

: There are no known interactions between metronidazole gel and azithromycin. You should follow the treatment recommendations made by the prescribing physician(s), always ensuring that you tell your physician all medications you are taking.
