Cardio Mix: If you have adipose tissue to lose (not everyone does), then consider an increase in cardio & a balanced diet. However, do not always do the same exercise or you will increase your risks for stress injuries. Mix things up with walking, running, biking, swimming, elliptical, or circuit training. Ultimately you need to burn more than you consume.

Elliptical and stair: The elliptical uses arms and legs and is a total body workout. You can burn aerobic calories which burns fat and helps you to lose weight. The stairclimbers are also challenging. You can also loose weight using a treadmill with varying inclines. Interval training, where you alternate the degree of challenge, results in increased calories lost by your metabolism.

it seems that every time i complete significant   stretches of intense activity (days of cutting firewood, building houses, house painting on ladders, etc, i find that i do not lose weight. it appears that either i gain muscle tone or my appetite increases. at 6'1" and 292 pounds, male and pear-shaped , i am finding it difficult to lose weight.  i am 55. i was 265 pounds of lean, mean fightin machine in my 30's when i built my log house. comments?

Overweight : At 265 pounds someone is not lean, you may have a lot a muscle mass. Exercises can almost never out due to weight gain to excess calories. I had a 360-pound patient who did cardio for one hour 5 times a day for a year and lost no weight. I believe you need a dietician. Start by recording everything you eat . See your primary care doctor.

Jury is still out: There's not enough peer-reviewed published data regarding total body vibration and it's (long-term) effects on the human body. Certainly any physical activity coupled w/sensible nutrition should help you get healthy. Focus on health rather than weight loss, although latter will come around in time. Good luck!

Exercise machine. : The best exercise machine is the one you’ll actually use regularly.  Pick something you think you’ll enjoy and be able to use almost every day without getting bored.  Otherwise, you’ll be using it to dry the laundry.

Sure: Engage in regular aerobic exercise (i.e. running, swimming, Nordic track, bicycling, kickboxing, walking, cross country skiing, hiking, etc.) Try to work in weight training as well. Take care.

Accepted Answer

Yes: A stepper machine should be fine, especially if progressively increased in difficulty.  For my patients with back/joint pain, i generally recommend avoiding impact activities such as running.  Unfortunately, any activity has the potential for causing pain, but in most cases the pain does not mean that any damage is being done.  See your physician if you are unable to exercise without severe pain.

Weight loss: 60 lbs in 6months is a reasonable goal at 2 lbs per week. You need to burn or not consume 7000 calories per week. Decrease intake by 500 calories per day and burn 500 more calories per day. Treadmill about two hours per day and 1500 or less calories consumed.

Yes!: Running is probably the most effective way to lose weight when combined with dieting. Beware of bad knees!
