Mirna ,myths ; facts: Mirna is not known to cause infection. But if have underlying infection prior to insertion mirna will not treat it. Mirena (levonorgestrel) may attach to or go through the wall of the uterus and cause other problems. Mirna is also not known to cause red cells in urine or urinary tract infection. If you have persistent pelvic or abdominal pain, see your healthcare provider.  Hope this helps.

just ran my urine, had leukocytes of 3+, protein reading of +-, nitrate +, and ph is normally 6.0 and has increased to a 7.0. should i be concerned? no signs or symptoms of uti. i do have mirena inserted.

Random pee: The urine sample must be judged in light of the quality of the sample &amp; why it was obtained. A typical squat pee from a female contains vaginal debris &amp; uncircumcised male contains skin debris. Neither is considered worth much. A catheter specimen or mid-stream/clean catch with proper technique may have worth. Without symptoms or idea of a quality of this specimen little can be said.

does the antibiotic ciprofloxacin (taken for a uti) affect how my mirena (levonorgestrel) works? will it still prevent pregnancy while i'm on these antibiotics?

Mirena (levonorgestrel) + UTI: Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD can explain your blood sotting rather than a regular menstrual period. Young women who are sexually active are prone to getting UTIs. Risk of UTI can be reduced y emptying your bladder after sex. Some young women get UTIS after sex, in spite of urinating after sex, &amp; require an antibiotic such as Macrodantin. This can prevent UTIs. Your body is most likely OK

Not normal: It's okay that you have a regular period on the mirena, (levonorgestrel) but not okay that you have uti.  I would definitely discuss with your doctor.  Obviously he/she has been treating you for these uti's?  Discuss and make sure that there's not another reason for the uti's... Unlikely it's the mirena, (levonorgestrel) but not impossible if it's changing your body's natural flora.

See GYN: You need to see your gynecologist. He or she will likely order a urine culture and place you on a medication such as  Flagyl or even possibly Clindamycin based on findings after seeing you. Is there a discharge? Is it foul smelling? You need to be examined. It  does not sound very serious but you need  to be evaluated soon. Good luck.

Urinalysis: Any urgent or a primary care office should carry out a quick urine dip to determine an uti. An official test would be a urine culture which takes longer.  Otherwise your clinical symptoms such as burning, frequency, urgency, chills, fever and hestinancy would increase likelihood.
