how is trace protein normal on a urine dipstick. i thought any amount of protein is abnormal if its not negative.

Not quite: Humans are made of proteins, fats, water, salts, etc. The cells that line the collecting tubes from the kidney to the bladder, and the cells lining the bladder and urethra have some protein, and they shed into the urine sometimes. There is also protein that naturally filters out of the body into the urine each day, and more after vigorous exercise. We all pee out a little bit of protein every day.

Overall picture: Depends on what he was testing the urine for and what illness you have. He may want you to provide a morning urine.

Poss. kidney stone: Possibly nothing significant. Blood in urine warrants a kidney ; bladder ultrasound. Chiropracters are not qualified to managed conditions associated with blood in urine, nor malignant hyperthermia. These lie within the realms of physicians.

hi, i did urine dipstick for yula for she has increased urine frequency and she's quite confused, it tested positive. leukocyte is 125, chon=0.30, and the rest of the indicators have no trace.

SHE MAY HAVE: a urinary tract infection which her Primary Care Provider may wish to treat with a  brief course of anti-biotics...i the meantime Cranberry Juice and increased fluids may help!!

: Are you experiencing urinary symptoms?  In my opinion,these findings do not appear to be significant. For sake of completeness I recommend having a careful clean catch urine specimen sent for urine culture&amp; colony count as well as a microscopic examination of the urinary sediment. If these are all normal, no worries.

Urine protein.: Yes increasing water intake increases urine volume....output (pee) but not protein. Thus water intake diluted the protein in urine which may be enough to lower the concentration in the urine so low it will be negative with a dipstick. Best to test urine protein/ creatine ratio which corrects for dilution.

No: Trace leucocytes & trace protein are within normal limits & may be simple contaminants such as from vaginal epithelial cells. Presumably nitrite was negative which would have indicated baceria in your urine. Urine culture from a mid stream specimen, separating labia to avoid contamination, after cleansing with soap towlettes, would be more definitative for uti. That way you and your dr. Would know.

Urine dipstick: The urine dipstick has squares which 'turn color' when certain chemicals in the urine are present in various amounts (graded 0-->4+). It can show:  state of hydration (spec. Grav.), kidney disease (protein), diabetes (sugar/ketones) , stone/tumor (blood), liver disease (bilirubin), infection (white cells/nitrite). 
A complete urinalysis includes dipstick and microscopic exam.

Blood...: It means that a significant amount of blood was present in the urine. If you were going through, had recently finished or about to start your period this could be the reason. However, there are other reason like infection, kidney stones, irritation. You would need to follow up with your doctor on the results if having your period was not the reason.

Depends: there are multiple chips that are green depending on what is in the urine. If there is blood in the urine it will turn the yellow chip anywhere from light green to dark green depending on the amount of blood present. The pH chip will also turn green with a higher pH. If protein is present in the urine, the chip will turn a shade of green
