A member asked:

How is trace protein normal on a urine dipstick. i thought any amount of protein is abnormal if its not negative.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not quite: Humans are made of proteins, fats, water, salts, etc. The cells that line the collecting tubes from the kidney to the bladder, and the cells lining the bladder and urethra have some protein, and they shed into the urine sometimes. There is also protein that naturally filters out of the body into the urine each day, and more after vigorous exercise. We all pee out a little bit of protein every day.
