Weight bearing: The boot is needed if you are weight bearing - walking or standing. Not needed if at rest or while your foot is elevated.

Chip fracture: A small fragment of bone that has "chipped" off the main bone. Usually needs minimal treatment.

An isolated fibula : Fracture can take a while, especially in someone w/ 'more mature' bones. Unfortunately, a small amount of bone movement is necessary for bone healing. The fibula doesn't bear wt, so healing can be slow. Usually 4-6 wks in cast/boot, no wt bearing. Then will prob still take 1-2 mo before comfortable & fully healed. Watch nutrition, incl calcium, vit d & vit c. Stay in touch w doc till healed.

: This would not be considered a “bad” fracture. I would protect the area. Wear a stiff sole shoe for at least 3-4 weeks. You still have to allow for healing. You could have experienced a ligament injury to the joint. Important to allow proper healing.  Advil or Aleve for pain and swelling

Buddy Taping/6 weeks: Non displaced fracture is treated with Buddy Taping and rigit sole shoes to limit joint movements.Buddy taping is taping the fractured toe to the next healthy toe to immobilize the fractured toe. The healing takes about. 6 to 8 weeks. It better be evaluated by your Family Doctor or a Podiatrist.

my 4year old son has fractured his arm. the x-ray report says there is a faint undisplaced transverse fracture in the proximal humerus. is it okay to let a doctor see him next week? no one is available today. hes not in any pain

Yes: I would put that arm in a sling &amp; use a wide wrap to hold both to his torso (over his undershirt) . Ibuprophen or acetaminophen for  any discomfort. He can bathe/sleep/feed as usual but not be involved in  elective physical activities. For this injury they often just monitor it while it heals over several weeks.

2-6 months: Signs of avn can occur as early as 6 weeks or as late as 4 months after a talus fracture on a plain ankle xray. Mri studies and bone scans can show signs of injury to the circulation much earlier.

CT scan: Sounds like treatment is appropriate if no displacement. Ct scan can evaluate healing process. A bone stimulator may also help with healing. If no x-ray evidence of healing at 3 -6 months than surgery is indicated.

i had an undisplaced vertical talus body fracture. it went undiagnosed for 5 months. the tibotalar joint was notinvolved. a patch of sclerosis is showing in the talar dome. what is the treatment option?

Off loading : Off-loading of fracture and immobilizing if fracture is not healed.  Depending on mr report, may benefit from patellar bearing brace for amunlation.  Since it is non displaced, it may not need surgery unless avn develops.  Continue monitoring with serial x-rays until 6 months post injury.  Good luck.

did i re-fracture my hand? lifted and threw 100lb maybe.

Possible: You re-fracture recently healed fracture or old healed fracture if you apply enough force on it  to break the bone. Thank you.
