i need help understanding my brain mri results. i was just given a disc to take home with me that had the images on them. i didnt receive a report along with it. can anyone help me read what theyre saying?

Depends on image: Magnetic resonance imaging with and without gadolinium contrast shows hyperintensity depending on type of images, T1, T2, diffusing weighted or flair view.  Each type of image views can because by various ideologies, including ischemia, plaques, infection, growth, bleed.  Gray matter hyperintensity simply means changes seen based on the type of image.

how long does it usually take to get brain mri results?

It depends.....: Usually MRI results are read by the radiologist early on... Within a day and usually right away.  However,   the results must usually be given to your doctor which may take a few days... It's a good idea to ask your doctor this question.

i got my mri results yday! whats the difference between a hyperintensity/lesion on a brain mri?

Hyperintensity: refers to the how a spot looks on a particular MRI sequence (usually a FLAIR or T2 weighted image.)
Quite often we see tiny white spots in the white matter in people with migraine. These can be of no consequence or indicate inflammation (vasculitis) With MS we tend to see T2 /FLAIR lesions that are larger and in characteristic  locations. Ask your doctor what he thinks.

if brain mri results are bad but not urgent how long will they take to come back?  also, can you get them over the phone if they're normal? thanks

Usually : Read by radiologist the same day.  Your doctor or doctors associate can call with results as soon as they are back.  Should be back 48-72 hours after having the test done.    Unless Friday.   May take an extra day or two.   If they do not call you.  Call office for results

Good news. : The blood vessels supplying your brain are not narrowed or blocked. These are the cerebral arteries.

Signal Void Brain: On mri, in certain sequences there should be a lack of signal (ie. A black appearance) within the blood vessels. This normal appearance suggests that blood is flowing normally within these blood vessels. If there is a lack of signal void, this could suggest either abnormal blood flow or a complete lack of blood flow. This is abnormal and is concerning. Oftentimes this is associated with a stroke.

my brain mri results say "patchy t2 hyperintensity, likely a sequelae of inflatmmation", what does that mean?

Context: If you had a recent concussion or mild traumatic brain injury, then this MRI finding suggests an area of bruising of the brain that is now recovering. If no recent injury, then this suggests some other process causing inflammation in that region of your brain (and there are many possible causes of inflammation other than injury). Your doctor can tell you more.

NOthing: Flow void is a normal finding for blood vessels on a brain mri.  A flow void is an area void of signal due to normal blood flow.
