My list for you:: 1)maintain excellent oral hygiene prior to surgery and get your teeth cleaned professionaly.  2) follow all pre-op instructions from your surgeon. 3)  plan out diets for soft foods/liquids and have them ready as nutrition is very important. 4) get prescriptions ahead of time.   5) have your work /school schedule worked out. 6) have good movies and books ready. Then a vertical cut is made in the ramus of the mandible (the vertical part of the mandible) to allow the surgeon to move the mandible (lower jaw) back (behind the upper teeth) into normal position.
