Hernia incarcerated?: Jason--This sounds serious. I don't know what the location of the hernia is, but it could be incarcerated or becoming strangulated. See a surgeon!

? pulled muscle: You could have pain from a pulled peri coastal muscle from coughing.  The pain could be from esophagitis from reflux.  If it does not respond with tincture of time with antacids and nonsteroidals, you should see your physician.

i have severe pain right rib.  gall bladder removed.  surgery for post surgery hernia, found disconnected rib.  pain stops life, and sleep. what now  ?

Sounds complex: First - call your her is surgeon, and go in for a visit. If you want another opinion, check the americas hernia society website to find a surgeon interested in hernias. Too much for this forum like this to come up with a diagnosis. Hope this helps!

can a hiatal hernia get strangulated? ive been straining most of today and recently ive been having rib pain, nausea in waves, throat tightness feeling, dry mouth and reflux. im really worried and is causing anxiety?

: A hiatal hernia can get stuck in your chest ( incarcerated) and strangulation is a rare complication. Straining such as heavy lifting, bearing down, coughing excessively does aggravate a hiatal hernia &amp; can lead to complications. If you have serious concerns about your hiatal hernia, consult a thoracic surgeon for evaluation &amp; advice.

i have been diagnosed with a 4cm hiatus hernia and dysphagia but why does my left side under my ribs hurt so much all the time?

Because...: You've been diagnosed with a 4 cm hiatus hernia.  Might i suggest asking your physician who diagnosed the hernia to make sure there is nothing else going on.

would a hernia show up on a ct scan without contrast? upper r side pain and mild swelling; had gb out 3 yrs ago without problems. my ct came back clean but i'm wondering if it would've showed a hernia?

Not always: When trying to diagnose conditions of the abdomen, it is always advisable to do it with contrast if possible. Mild hernias or occult hernias can be missed with non contrast studies. A lot of times hernias can be diagnosed clinically with a good history and physical exam but when still not sure do a CT with contrast.

went to er sat for lower right side pain. my ct showed a hernia but no appendicitis. bw and urine also clear. sharp pain when i move but it got a little better. my pcp said they shouldve referred me to general surgeon. is a hernia an emergency?

: Hernia may become an emergency if complicated, specifically if it becomes strangled. Otherwise for uncomplicated hernia, surgery is elective and establishing with a surgeon would be best.

Many causes: Right sided groin pain can result from many conditions, including bone/joint problems, other intestinal problems (besides the appendix), like diverticulitis, genitourinary (reproductive and urinary tracts) like epidymitis (inflammation of structures surrounding the testicle), or bruising to the muscle/tendons.  Each of these need further evaluation by your physician.

Not common: A hernia is the protrusion of an organ or the fascia of an organ through the wall of the cavity that normally contains it from within. There are different kinds of hernias, each requiring a specific management or treatment.
But hernia under the rib is not common.
