i am 36. what can i do about my sleep apnea? i have severe sleep apnea and tried to wear cpap machine, but couldn't sleep with the masks.i tried a lot of different ones. i'm over wieght and stay tired a lot. can i get surgery?

The : The mask can be adjusted or changed.  Ask your doctor if you need an oral appliance which may help you.  If those don't work, see your doctor and let them know, because there are surgical alternatives that can be considered for sleep apnea.

do i have to wear my cpap every night?

Yes: The short answer is yes. If you were diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (osa), than you are at risk for the complications that can come with that disease and wearing the c-pap mask and using the machine is important to your well being.  Weight loss may help and keeping routine appts to follow your care is important in the monitoring process of osa.   Best wishes.

Check Fit: Your mask should be comfortable- you need to make sure you have the right sized mask for your face.  There are now masks that just fit in your nostrils, masksade of cloth and gel masks that mold to your face.  See your respiratory therapist or your sleep doctor for more assistance.

my ahi on my cpap is normally between 1-3ish. last night it spiked to 4. on occasions i have seen it spike before but it also listed as my mask being off. this time, i only had 2 episodes of the mask being off. concerning?

: These number on the home CPAP machines have more to do with mask fit than anything else. If it is an occasional increase, just be certain the mask is on correctly and you don’t feel a significant leak of air around the edges. If the trend with an increase in the AHI continues, then see your sleep doctor so that the mask fit can be checked by the doctor. Good luck!

what is the best mask to use with a cpap machine?

CPAP mask fit: The one that fits most comfortably yet provides the necessary delivery eliminating any significant oxygen desaturation. There are many available so there should be one that is comfortable yet provides a good seal. Many have associated restless leg syndrome or periodic limb movement disorder, therefor aggressively treating that effectively seems to allow for more comfort with cpap.

Change the mask: Get a better fitting mask.You can try to make adjustment but it may be better to get a better fitting mask.Ask for it

Air leak: Air leak is very common with CPAP use. Try adjusting and fitting with a little manipulation at the bridge of the nose and try hitting the ramp button or simply turn the machine off and on. I see that you have tried tightening the straps already.

COVID 19:  To be honest, I think that cleaning CPAP and apparatus is A LOT OF WORK !!  I suggest you make the investment &amp; purchase a CPAP sanitizer/ cleaner. Now a number of companies are selling them and the prices have dropped.

Yep: You can take the whole mask off, or your can leave the mask on and just disconnect the hose......Then pee away! not a problem at all.

i like to use an oxygen tank as a nebulizer and hook it to a cpap mask for back up as we tend to loose power in vt winter  what flow rate do i need?

2 diffferent uses: For a nebulizer I have been told that usually it takes a minimum of 5 liters per minute to adequately nebulize the medication but a CPAP machine is based on regulated pressure not flow.
