i need advice from a peidetrician. his got a umbilical hernia on his stomach. its doesn't hurt but its abit big. just worried. what should i do?

How old: With this issue umbi hernias are common in the newborns &amp; big is a relative term (how big). Most self correct as the kid develops more tone in their belly muscles, usually by age 2. Black female infants are more likely to need surgical correction than white or Asians of either gender.There is slight chance the hernia gets trapped needing  immediate surgery but the risk can be determined by exam.

Sometimes.: Umbilical hernias are small holes in the abdominal wall at the belly button through which the inner layer of the abdominal wall, the peritoneum, protrudes through to create a sac.  This sac has many pain fibers and is often sensitive to the touch, especially if it is difficult to reduce.  Your baby, regardless of their age, will let you know if it hurts, typically by grimacing and crying.

Need more info: Yours is not an uncommon occurrence. Your best choice is to get a second opinion from an abdominal surgeon in a large medical institution who has a long history of doing these kind of hernia repairs. Your family physician may be the right person to help you find that person.

Possible , but. ...: It's possible that you tore something that could lead to a recurrence but if there is no bulge or obvious hernia sticking out than you are probably ok. Bruising and muscle strain can feel the same way. And 'tightness' can be confused with pain. Tightness is normal, pain is not.

Try generic ibuprofen for a week or so and see if it improves. If not improving or if worse, see your surgeon

Depends: Depends on how bad the symptoms are. The more severe, the more likely you should see you primary care provider (pcp). Umbilical hernias are usually associated with a lump under the skin that can be pushed in to the abdominal cavity with manual pressure. Your pcp should be able to tell if its dangerous with an exam.

Go to ER: If you are already in the hospital and had surgery ; then it is good and this is Post Op pain. Otherwise it is high time to go and seek the immediate medical /Surgical Treatment.

May be recurrence: Pain  6 years after repair , see your doctor may  be a small  or early recurrence, as you need examination.
