Likely a muscle stra: If it hurts when you push on it, and the serious things have been ruled out, you likely pulled a muscle. If you don't have a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding from your intestine. You may want to take Motrin 200mg  prn for pain.

If a joint is involved, the disorder will not be discoverable by imaging studies because all these types of studies are static &quot;snapshots&quot; &amp; not cinematographic. To check size: The spleen is tucked under the left rib cage, &amp; so examining it is rather difficult. There are blood disorders &amp; problems with the immune system which cause the spleen to enlarge, so I imagine your hematologist is trying to figure out whether he should be treating these or not. A good ultrasound tech will measure the exact size of the spleen, &amp; also tell if there's a cyst or infarct in the spleen.

Stop worrying: Spleen size is never a problem if you feel okay. Some folks have big ones. Some folks have tiny ones. Glad you are over the meningitis. Be glad for good health.

Often when a person: experiences pain in the right upper quadrant/RUQ of the abdomen one is tempted to say it is liver pain...the liver is the largest organ in that part of the body. Pain in the RUQ can come from the skin/muscles of the abdominal wall (shingles, muscle strain), inflammation of abdom lining (peritonitis), organs (add gall bladder, colon, kidney) or "referred" from lung, ribs

Splenomegaly: Yes, splenomegaly can cause referred pain to the left shoulder due to irritation of the adjacent diaphragm and the anatomic course of the associated phrenic nerve.  If the pain is acute, it can be a sign of splenic rupture(Kehr's sign), which can be spontaneous in the setting of slpenomegaly.  If this is the case, seek medical attention emergently.

Depends.   : Some people do not have a spleen. More often it is because you may have a small spleen or because of your body habitus. It may be under your ribs or there may be bowel gas making it difficult.  Other possibilities could be that it is a new sonographer but that is less likely.

i'm 31, female. just got over a bug. ultrasound showed slightly enlarged spleen (13.5). bloodwork is perfect. should i worry or ask for more tests?

Possibly: you may have had an Epstein-Barr virus infection, which can cause temporary splenomegaly.  A recent infection may be proven by rising titers of IgG specific for EB virus or a positive IgM.  Since your blood studies were normal I doubt further complications will occur.
